Katie Newman is a journalist in the Toronto area. She completed her undergraduate degree in journalism at the Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) in April 2022 with minors in politics and criminology.
Katie completed an internship with CBC’s national Investigative Unit and contributed to the Go Public team. She has also participated in an investigation with the Institute for Investigative Journalism.
Katie has a broad range of experience reporting on varying subjects and in different mediums. She has experience as a reporter with On The Record, her university’s newspaper. Katie has completed investigations, and has experience with multimedia, features, hard-news, and TV and audio reporting.
She has covered large-scale events, such as the 2019 federal election, Chris Hadfield’s Beyond the Horizon talk at the Toronto Metropolitan University and Maria Resa’s discussion with Adrienne Arsenault in 2019. She has also written about city events, the mental health beat and data stories.
Katie is interested in political and human-rights reporting and is looking to pursue international reporting in her future.
When Katie is not pursuing a story, she is most likely binge-reading a new YA Fantasy novel while curled-up next to her cats.
